Lockbox
Coming soonFor the things that need locking up. We’re still building it.
Lockbox will be one place for the account numbers, policy numbers, codes and papers a family gets asked for after a death. Until it’s ready, Family Circle can hold the simpler answer: where each thing is kept.
Lockbox has nothing to sign up for yet. Family Circle and the checklist are free today.
An early sketch
Not ready yet
Please keep numbers and codes off Omuna for now.
Lockbox isn’t built, and nothing on Omuna is a safe place for passwords, account numbers or codes today. Please don’t type them into notes or anywhere else on the site.
Everyone asks for a number nobody can find.
After a death, the bank wants an account number. The insurer wants a policy number. Someone needs the alarm code before they can get into the house. The person who knew all of it is the one you can’t ask.
Lockbox is meant to be where those answers wait, written down ahead of time, so nobody has to search drawers, inboxes and memory for them.
- Legal ID numbers and documentsSocial Security, passport and license numbers, with the documents themselves.
- Banking and financialWhich banks, which accounts, and how the family gets to them.
- Insurance policy and member numbersThe details an insurer asks for on the first call.
- Will and trust documentsThe papers themselves, not just who holds them.
- Digital account accessThe way into the accounts a family needs to close or keep.
- Home security codesAlarm codes, lockbox combinations, the garage keypad.
What you can use today.
Most of the hunting starts with a simpler question than a number: where is it? These are ready now, and free.
Family Circle
Write down, for each person, whether there’s a will or a trust and where it’s kept, who the executor is, and who to call about insurance. It asks where things are, never the numbers, and prints as a one-page emergency card.
The checklist’s account tasks
The free checklist takes you through finding and closing bank accounts, notifying life insurance companies, freezing credit reports, and finding digital wallets and passwords, one task at a time.
How to find a lost will
A short guide to where wills tend to turn up: the house, a safe deposit box, the attorney who drafted it.
Probate and executor guides for your state
Plain guides to probate, executor duties and death certificates for all 50 states and DC. No account needed.
Questions about Lockbox
Can I store documents or passwords on Omuna now?
No. Lockbox isn’t built yet, and Omuna has no safe place for ID numbers, account details, passwords, codes or documents today. Please don’t type them into notes or any other part of the site.
When will Lockbox be ready?
We don’t have a date to share. We’d rather open it late than open it before it can look after these things properly.
What can I do in the meantime?
Start a Family Circle. For each person, you can record whether there’s a will or a trust and where it’s kept, who the executor is, and who to call about insurance. You can print it all as a one-page emergency card.
How will I know when it’s ready?
There’s no mailing list or sign-up for Lockbox. If you have a Family Circle, the Lockbox tab in each person’s record is where it will appear.
Start with where things are.
Lockbox is still on its way. The free checklist takes the accounts one at a time, and knowing where the papers are is half the search.
